weekend movie wrap-up

as many of you probably already know, i'm a troubled loner.
i have no problem attending concerts or movies by myself.
eating at restaurants alone tends to suck most of the time, so that's one activity i usually avoid.

the other thing you may or may not know about me is that i'm a movie geek.
the DVD collection now exceeds 600 titles and i make an effort to catch a flick or 3 each weekend at the local neon multi-screen corporate cash cow.

AND!

as we inch closer to the American memorial day weekend, we're officially entering the summer "blockbuster" season for movies.......so it's an exciting time for geeks like me.

i caught 2 viewings this weekend:

Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith

yes, i'm a fan.
no, i'm not a fanatic.
i haven't been in line for the last few months, i didn't don a lame costume for my viewing......no, i merely grabbed my ticket and entered an empty theater.......early afternoon on a saturday!.....that's the beauty of this theater showing the movie every HOUR on the hour.......it gets the crowds spread out quite nicely......

i'm a child of the 70's, so i grew up with the first 3 Star Wars movies.
it's practically inbred.

i also saw the other 2 prequels in theaters, just because it was mandated......so episode 3 was a no-brainer.......and the hype machine has been in gear for the last month, giving teasing bits about how "dark" this chapter is........

yes indeed, this is one dark fucking movie.
YEEEEAAAAHHHH!!
prowse likes himself some darkness.

this chapter is all about darth vader.
who he is........who he was........what drove him to the dark side.......
brilliant stuff!

and it really ties up ALL the loose ends and answers all the questions that lead us to the "first" star wars movie.

and the second viewing this weekend:

CRASH

it's another one of those multi-character dramas, with each character's story overlapping everyone else's story.......get it?

the other enticing thing is that it is written and directed by a guy from MY HOMETOWN!!
Paul Haggis is the guy.........and in the opening credits you get a quick glimpse of this production company: Blackfriar's Bridge productions.

it's been a good year for the London boy.......he was the guy who wrote Million Dollar Baby, the little fighting movie that stole the show at the oscars back in march.......

so anyway.........CRASH.........it's set in los angeles and has a wide range of ethnic characters, which tends to raise the tensions a notch.......

i know lots of people hate the idea of having to THINK during a movie, so if that's you, you probably won't enjoy this flick........i know it's just so fucking HARD to follow story lines and keeping track of characters........so feel free to go to the next theater over, which is showing the latest vin diesel piece of shit, where you won't be required to think one little bit........

POSTSCRIPT:
you must have paid attention to my pleas to save the television show Arrested Development, cuz Fox announced last week that it's been renewed for a third season!

maybe......just maybe.......there's an ounce of fucking justice in this world!

happy viewing, fuckers.
be it television or the big screen.
