from my perspective, 2006 was a great year for film.
i feel i can say this because i saw a boatload of films throughout the year.
and at this same time every year, oscars are handed out for achievement in film and they went something like this:
Best motion picture of the year: The Departed (seen it)
Performance by an actor in a leading role: Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland (seen it)
Performance by an actor in a supporting role: Alan Arkin, Little Miss Sunshine (seen it)
Original screenplay: Little Miss Sunshine (seen it)
Achievement in cinematography: Pan’s Labyrinth (have not seen it)
Visual Effects: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (seen it)
Achievement in costume design: Marie Antoinette (seen it)
Achievement in sound mixing: Dreamgirls (seen it)
Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original song): "I Need to Wake Up," An Inconvenient Truth (seen it)
Best animated feature film of the year: Happy Feet (have not seen it)
